What is metabolomics?

Metabolomics is the study of the metabolome, the complete set of metabolites found within a biological sample.

A metabolite is a molecule made or used when the body breaks down food, drugs, chemicals, or its own tissue[1].

Why is it important?

By measuring the metabolites in a sample, we can gain an understanding of its biochemical composition and structure, investigate the cause of biological effects, and provide insight into biological processes[2, 3].

Essentially, by studying the metabolome, we can get a direct readout of physiological state, i.e. what is happening in the system at that time point

How do we measure metabolites?

Our services utilize MS-based approaches to identify and quantify our metabolite biomarkers. Since each metabolite has a characteristic mass-spectrometry spectra[4], we can use MS to identify those chemical patterns
